Jens Lekman
No one can resist the Swedish charm of Jens Lekman. The indie-pop singer/songwriter appeals to love saps everywhere with his heart-on-sleeve storytelling, droll humor, and romantic whimsy, though his newest album, I Know What Love Isn’t, is born from a breakup and focuses more on heartbreak than his previous work. Touring in support of the new album, Lekman already scheduled a show some time ago for Tuesday, Oct 2 at Lincoln Hall, but now he’s added a second show for the day after. While the Oct 2 show is 18+, Wednesday night’s show is 21+ and therefore ideal for those who can’t stand people too young to drink.
Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct 2 and Oct 3 at Lincoln Hall, 2424 N Lincoln, 8 p.m., $25
Dan Deacon
He was just here last weekend for North Coast, but Dan Deacon has already set the date for another Chicago show, Nov 7 at Lincoln Hall. The electro oddball just kicked off a massive 60-show tour to spread word of his new album, America, which is as swirling and pulsing and danceable as his previous albums, and now with more patriotism—or at least general optimism about America for everything it is, good and evil. Note to showgoers: Deacon has his own phone app that allows audience members to contribute to his live performances by turning phones into a synchronized light show. It’s available for free through Google Play and iTunes.
Wednesday, Nov 7 at Lincoln Hall, 2424 N Lincoln, 9 p.m., $15, 18+
Future Islands
We have some serious love for Future Islands, what with the heart-turning hooks, the deep, seductive croon of frontman Samuel T. Herring, and the cathartic experience that is their live show. The synthpop band is still flying high on all the praise from their last full-length, On the Water, which was release last year around this time. But they’ve also just put out a new 7-inch called "Tomorrow / Fountain." The guys slow things down for this one—“Tomorrow” is luscious, it’s smooth flowing, and it makes you want to make love all night long. Listen to it over at SoundCloud, and pick up tickets for their Nov 18 show tomorrow at noon.
Sunday, Nov 18 at Lincoln Hall, 2424 N Milwaukee, 8 p.m., $15, 21+
