Been avoiding the Bard since 10th grade English class? The Shakespeare Project of Chicago offers an approachable adaptation with free performances at the Newberry Library this Wednesday, September 12 at 5:30 p.m.

Members of the Actors’ Equity Association will present two abridged readings of Shakespeare's most enduring tragedies. Featuring only four actors, "50-Minute Romeo and Juliet" condenses the play's action to focus on the romance and tragedy of the doomed lovers. "50-Minute Hamlet" utilizes just two actors in highlighting the play's iconic scenes and language.

Since 1996, the Shakespeare Project of Chicago has fostered its mission of bringing to life the words of William Shakespeare and other great dramatists, promoting the talents of Actors' Equity Association members, and presenting plays to the community for free, in addition to educational outreach for students of all ages. Other Chicagoland performance dates as well as information on Saturday morning performances at the Newberry Library are available at the Shakespeare Project of Chicago website.
