Sometimes we forget VICE covers more than just music and fashion dos and don'ts. In fact they've done their best to provide some pretty terrific investigative reporting over the years. One of our longtime favorite subjects of theirs was Acrassicauda, the Iraqi metal band the magazine brought to international prominence, underscoring the realities of the effects of the Iraq war in terms anyone could relate to.

The magazine has turned its investigative eye on Chicago now, and the first of a two-part series titled Chicago Interrupted covers violence in our communities and the people trying to make a difference and stop it. In the video above the VICE crew follows two members of CeaseFire, Tio Hardiman and Ameena Matthews, as they go around town trying to head off tense situations before they erupt into violence. They're not always successful.
