More Than 50 Dead Cats Found In Elgin Home, Van

It's been a while since we read a story about someone hoarding cats or dogs and few of those stories was like this one from Elgin, where authorities were called in to remove dozens of cats—alive and dead—from a home and van.

Elgin city code officials alerted police to a home at the 200 block of Villa Street. A city worker who was trimming overgrown bushes and trees near the home last week noticed dead cats in a van, according to the Tribune. The man who lives in the house told police he was tending to a dozen cats inside, but as many as 60 dead cats, along with a dog or two, were found in the van.

A neighbor told the Tribune the man kept to himself, that she knew he had cats, and noticed a smell coming from his property she thought was merely garbage. The dozen living cats were taken to a nearby animal hospital.
