Do This: Giggle While Blindfolded Foodies Attempt To Identify Ingredients

2012_9_28_Sono.jpg It's not often that food, comedy and charity come together, but next Monday night at Sono Wood Fired Pizzeria, it's gonna happen. A bunch of food writers (including your loyal Food and Drink Editor Anthony Todd) are going to compete to see who can identify a whole passel of ingredients as they are put in front of us. The twist? We're all going to be blindfolded.

The competitors for this "Big Palate Challenge" include members of Chicago's food-scene "Glitterati" (ed. note: I've never been called that before) such as Mike Gebert (Grubstreet), Nick Kindelsperger (Serious Eats Chicago), Chandra Ram (Plate Magazine), Heather Sperling (Tasting Table), Tatiana Abramova (Bridescoop) and Huge Galdones (photographer extraordinare at Galdones Photography). Oh, and Anthony. The fun for guests starts at 6:30 p.m., and the contest starts at 7 p.m. Each contestant will have to identify 20 ingredients in 30 minutes — or, make a passable attempt to try. We'll see if our noses and taste buds are up to the task.

Tickets include beer, wine and appetizers, and they only cost $20. All proceeds go to Share our Strength, and the winner gets an additional $100 donation made in his or her name. Come root for your favorite food writer — we're willing to bet things will get pretty ridiculous. Buy tickets online or call 312-255-1122 for more information.

Sono Wood-Fired Pizzeria is located at 1582 N. Clybourn Avenue.
