Verma guitarist and synth player TJ Tambellini wrote to Chicagoist to tell us about the krautrock revivalists' brand new full length LP, EXU, which will be released Saturday at Hideout, and to inform us of his own departure from the band.

Tambellini says EXU was recorded in two sessions: the first session was at Ukrainian Village-based Pieholden Suite Sound, while the second took place at Minbal. The second session was engineered by CAVE/Bitchin' Bajas member Cooper Crain (perfect, given CAVE are fellow masters at the Black Sabbath-by-way-of-NEU style).

Tambellini also drew our attention to two new tracks from EXU, "Ragnaraak" and "Moons". Both are excellent psychedelic slices of the band's sound: The former is driving, hard-hitting and mind-blowing, while the latter is more moody, mid-tempo and chill.

Tambellini says the entire album will be available for streaming next week through the Verma bandcamp page. Tambellini said, however, that the album's official release will be at their Saturday show at Hideout with Speck Mountain.

The show will be a bittersweet one, as Tambellini is leaving Chicago for Los Angeles. Verma will still continue though.

"We will still continue to record and release albums, but will just not be gigging as often," Tambellini wrote. "This Saturday's show will be the last for quite awhile."

Early 2013, to be a little more specific. Tambellini says Verma will play to support two new releases: a cassette of improv material from the band's score to The Vice Guide to Congo documentary, and a 45 of two unreleased songs.

Both releases will be on up-and-coming Chicago label Notes and Bolts.
