Smile, Pat Quinn! Your Job Approval Ratings Are Low

A new poll by the Tribune and WGN-TV shows voters across the Land of Lincoln are dissatisfied with Gov. Pat Quinn's job performance. This comes as a surprise to no one (not even Quinn), but the numbers still merit mention.

Quinn's overall approval ratings stand at 26 percent. That's lower than the 28 percent approval rating Quinn held two months before the November 2010 gubernatorial election. The poll shows Quinn largest support base is in Chicago and suburban Cook County, while downstate voters disapprove of him the most—again, not surprising. What is are his approval ratings in Chicago: four in 10 voters polled thought Quinn was doing a good job.

At least Quinn can look at Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and say "at least I'm hated less." Madigan's approval ratings are at 22 percent in the same poll. Downstaters seem to like Madigan more than Quinn, but his act doesn't resonate among voters in suburban Cook County and the collar counties.
