Black n Blue Boys/Broken Men
Prepare for an emotional night with this 90-minute, one-woman collection of monologues that delves into parental abuse and the harm it causes a boys’ transition to manhood. Don’t forget the Kleenex. The show runs through Sunday, October 28. Showtimes are Wednesday through Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

Goodman Theatre, 170 N. Dearborn St., $20-$45, 312-443-3800 or online.

Black Watch
In a return engagement thanks to the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Black Watch takes us through the Iraq war from the eyes of Scottish soldiers. Based on in-depth interviews with former soldiers, the show promises to be an intense, visceral piece of theater — and one you won’t want to miss. The show runs through Sunday, Oct. 21. Showtimes are Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.

Broadway Armory, 5917 N. Broadway, $38-$52, 312-595-5600 or online.

Macbeth: As the Dust Settles
It’s the same classic tale of greed, loyalty and ambition that Shakespeare penned more than 400 years ago, but with a twist. The Bard’s 11th century Scottish play moves to smalltown Kansas in the middle of the dustbowl. Intrigued yet? We are. The show runs Friday, Oct. 19 through Sunday, Nov. 11. Showtimes are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m.

Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont, $15-$20, 773-327-5252 or online.
