Details have emerged regarding the life of the man accused of killing three women and wounded four others in a Wisconsin spa Sunday before apparently killing himself. Those details include a younger life in Chicago that’s at odds with what neighbors in Wisconsin saw.

Radcliffe Franklin Haughton, 45, grew up in Wheeling and Northbroook and attended Wheeling and Glenbrook North High Schools, according to NBC Chicago. Haughton’s father and neighbors who remembered him had nothing but positive things to say about him. Radcliffe Haughton, Sr. told NBC Chicago his son’s actions in the spa weren’t a result of anything regarding his upbringing. "It's not the family, the family don't believe in this."

That contrasts with the perception neighbors in Deer Tick, Wisc. have of Haughton. They told the Chicago Sun-Times Haughton, a former marine, was “angry,” “dominant,” and could often be heard “blowing off steam.”

The elder Haughton told the Sun-Times his son was going through troubles in his marriage. Haughton’s wife, Zina, was granted a four-year restraining order earlier this month after he slashed the tires of her vehicle. Court filings showed Haughton accused his wife of cheating on him, threatened to throw acid in her face and burn her and her family. Zina Haughton said her husband terrorized her “every waking moment.”

Zina Haugton was employed at the Azana Spa in Brookfield, Wisc. and was confirmed this morning as one of the victims killed in the shooting. The other two killed were Cary L. Robuck, 35 of Racine, Wisc.; and Maelyn M. Lind, 38, of Oconomowoc, Wisc.
