LAST MINUTE PLANS: Sea Wolf Is Sublime

By Tankboy in Arts & Entertainment on Oct 24, 2012 5:20PM

2012_10_sea_wolf.jpg Sea Wolf's leader, Alex Brown Church, has one of those voices that girls swoon over. Languid and liquid is spins out plaintive webs that make hearts all sticky and gooey. Look, we're going to be honest here, if you like Coldplay you're going to like this guy. If you don't like Coldplay but secretly play their albums when no one's watching you're definitely going to love this guy because he's not on the stadium circuit.

When Sea Wolf plays Lincoln Hall tonight we expect a room full of swaying couples, and if you're not in a couple yet we still recommend going since that voice could help your eyes grow dewy and lead to, at the very least, a Craigslist Missed Connection.

O.K., we are being a little facetious, but their is an undeniable romanticism to Sea Wolf's music, and while its worth noting that quality is usually handled by most with the grace of a drunken baboon, in Church's hands there's a genuineness to his delivery that sends his music in a more honestly sublime direction. His orchestration is delicate, and the vocals are aching, but result soars high instead of plummeting under the black hole of oppressive navel gazing.

So go get your swoon on without a shred of guilt tonight. And send us your Missed Connections tomorrow.

Sea Wolf plays tonight, October 24, at Lincoln Hall, 2424 N Clark, 9 p.m., $14, 21+
