Brookfield Zoo Welcomes Baby Wombat

By Samantha Abernethy in Arts & Entertainment on Nov 1, 2012 8:20PM

The Brookfield Zoo welcomed a new baby southern hairy-nosed wombat, an animal we never imagined could be this cute. There are only 10 of these wombats in North American zoos. The wombat is a marsupial native to central southern Australia. The mother Kambora, 12, was born at the San Diego Zoo. The father Wilbur, 20, was born in Australia.

This little joey doesn't have a name yet. Even though she's eight months old, she is only just now outside of her mama's pouch. When she was born, she was the size of a bumblebee, then went in the pouch to sleep and nurse.
