Now You Can Enjoy The Best Fried Chicken In Chicago On Weeknights

Big Jones is at or near the top of our list of favorite restaurants in Chicago that specialize in Southern cooking, and their fried chicken is arguably the best in the city. The problem with that before this week was the chicken was only available on the Andersonville restaurant’s lunch menu.

That all changed with a single tweet Tuesday.

Here's what makes Big Jones fried chicken among the best in the city.

That chicken comes from a classic Edna Lewis recipe and, indeed, eating this way does feel a little like traveling back in time (and geographically South).

Edna Lewis, the "Grande Dame of Southern Cooking," was equal parts chef, historian and anthropologist; the best cookbook writers often are. Miss Lewis’ fried chicken recipe is the stuff of legend and is in good hands with Big Jones chef Paul Fehribach, who we suspect would make an amazing cookbook writer with his own attention to detail and research. Make your way up north for some of this amazing Southern-style fried chicken.
