One of the hallmarks of the Bulls under Tom Thibodeau's coaching has been a solid team defense, which keeps them in games they should have no right to win otherwise. But the team still needs to score points and, faced with a team that also knows how to clamp down on "D," sometimes you have games like Monday's loss to the Grizzlies at FedEx Arena. Both teams only shot 37 percent from the field but Memphis deployed a deeper bench, which made the difference. The Grizzlies' bench outscored Chicago 31-16 and was the key to overcoming a 20-11 first quarter where they shot only 18 percent from the field. Carlos Boozer led the Bulls with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

In college basketball, Northwestern defeated Texas State 74-68 in its first game without Drew Crawford.
