Giant Food And Tall Animals: Midwest Sets 2012 Guinness World Records

2012_12_29_hotdog.jpg It was a record-setting year here in the Midwest—not only did we lay claim to the World's Biggest Hamburger in Minnesota in September and the World's Longest Candy Cane in Geneva, Ill. earlier this month, we set some other records as well. Via MSNBC.com, here's who entered the record book this year:

• We have the World's Tallest Living Horse!

Big Jake is a 9-year-old Belgian gelding who stands 20 hands 2.75 inches tall, which is 82.75 inches. He resides at Smokey Hollow Farms in Poynette, Wis.

• We have the World's Longest Snake Ever In Captivity!

Medusa, the 25-foot, 2-inch reticulated python, lives at "The Edge of Hell" haunted house in Kansas City, Missouri. She's eight years old and weighs 350 pounds.

• We have the World's Tallest Living Dog!

Zeus the Great Dane is 44 inches high and lives in Otsego, Mich. She's three years old and weighs 150 pounds.

• We have the World's Largest Commercially Available Hot Dog!

Produced by Gorilla Tango Novelty Meats in Chicago, this massive dog is made with veal, beef, and pork. It's 16" long, 4" in diameter, and weighs 7 pounds. It costs $169.95 and can serve 40 people. It’s made by Schmeisser’s Home Made Sausage of Niles. Here's a video:
