Singer-songwriter Thom Cathcart, better known as Algebro, is more than just a handlebar mustache and a weird name. His music is simple folk with a Southern sensibility perfectly suited for a space like Uncommon Ground on Clark Street, where he kicks off a year-long residency 8 p.m. tonight with opening act Steve Leaf. Algebro will play Uncommon Ground the first Thursday of every month. (3800 N. Clark St.)
