Gissendanner, who went by the name "YPN Boomtown," was related to Keef (real name: Keith Cozart) by marriage; his stepfather is Cozart's father, Alonzo Cozart.
Alonzo Cozart told DNAInfo Gissendanner had just graduated from high school, had a job and aspirations to follow in his stepbrother's footsteps and start a career as a rapper. His mother, Audrey Tate, said he took some lyrical cues from Keef but his raps weren't as laden in violence as Keef's. Tate cut short a visit to Arkansas to travel back to Chicago to identify her son's body.
Tate said the two used to be friendly when they were younger, but Keef's maternal grandmother said he and his immediate family don't recognize him as family. Keef's attorney Dennis Berkson said Keef has no relationship with Alonzo Cozart and "had nothing to do with (Gissendanner)."
