TimeOut Chicago Re-Creates Classic Photo Moments In America History In This Week's Issue

There's a sea change in America. We're becoming a country that is becoming more tolerant of marriage equality and drug legalization (although the Illinois General Assembly missed an ideal opportunity to pass legislation on the former in the recently completed lame duck session), while conservatives find themselves on the wrong side of the argument across the country on hot button issues like immigration and women's reproductive rights.

The photographers of TimeOut Chicago decided to pay homage to what writer Ann Friedman is calling "The End of the Culture War" by re-creating classic photo moments in American history. Only, in the case of Alfred Eisenstaedt's iconic image of a sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square on V-J day, the sailor is kissing another sailor.

Chicagoist received permission from TOC to run the photos accompanying Friedman's story, which is worth clicking the link above and reading, as it's an engrossing read.
