The food in Chicago's suburbs often gets short shrift in the food media. We're either a.) lazy b.) carless c.) snobs and d.) lazy again, so we rarely get out to the suburbs, even if Paul Virant is waving cans in our general direction. That's why we're excited for "You Really Should Eat This," a new video series that features Oak Park dining destinations.

Hosted by David Hammond, the "Food Detective" for the Chicago Sun-Times and a regular contributor to WBEZ, "You Really Should Eat This" is produced by VOP-TV and Wednesday Journal. The first video in the series is one that is sure to appeal to everyone, food snobs and regular eaters alike: the corned beef hash at George's Family Restaurant.

Hammond is one of the most knowledgeable and approachable food writers in town, and he takes criticism well, mixing it up with the commenters on LTH Forum. Hopefully some of these videos will make us hungry enough to overcome our inertia and get out and explore the suburbs.
