Jeni Wahl, Sam Wahl and Keith Carlson run Get Off the Couch Catering and Dia de Los Tamales, which will soon be sharing a space at 939 W. 18th Street. We’re familiar with Wahl’s cooking from our visits to the Pilsen Community Market last summer and her Cuban sandwiches are on point. But it’s Dia de Los Tamales’ artisan approach, using from scratch ingredients and unique flavor combinations, which have had local foodies buzzing with anticipation for months.

Wahl dropped Chicagoist a line to let us know that construction on the space is almost complete, but there are a few weeks left in her Kickstarter campaign to buy the necessary equipment. Wahl has put together a nice array of prizes for the various funding levels for the campaign ranging from an embroidered iron-on Dia de Los Tamales patch for pledging $10, to a party for 40 people anywhere within Chicago’s city limits in exchange for a $400 pledge, to a $1,500 “music lovers package” that includes six tickets to your choice of Ravinia show this season, limo service to and from Ravinia, where Get off the Couch Catering will be waiting to provide dinner. There’s also a “Swine of the Month” club, featuring a different prepared pork product every month, in exchange for a $1,000 pledge.
