One day you’re a congressman, married to a beautiful wife, son of one of the country’s more recognizable Civil Rights leaders, living in a home full of fur coats and Bruce Lee memorabilia. The next day you’re pleading guilty to misusing campaign funds, your wife faces a tax evasion charge and your dad is telling everyone your bi-polar depression has got you feeling low.

That’s exactly what happened to former congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. Monday when his father, Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr., released a statement stating his son was “struggling with the highs and lows of his bi-polar disorder” and is currently under “tight medical supervision.”

Those last two statements, of course, are largely unchanged since Jackson Jr. began his medical leave of absence from Congress last June. Jackson Sr. said his family has heard from several reverends offering their prayers and support.

”This is a storm, within time storms pass over.”

But this particular storm was brewed by Jackson, Jr. While we won’t make light of his health struggles, he and his wife Sandi Jackson knew what they were doing.
