CTA is trying to get ahead of the inevitable deluge of complaints in store when it begins its overhaul of the Red Line’s South branch this summer by launching a Twitter feed where riders can keep up to date on the project’s progress.
The feed @RedLineSouth is part of a larger outreach effort launched by CTA today to educate riders on what will happen when the overhaul begins May 19 (in case there are any people out there who don't understand how the project will mess with their commutes).
CTA announced the Metra Electric line will change flag stops to regular stops at 63rd, 75th, 79th, 87th and 95th Streets with two additional trains during morning and evening rush hour periods, and regular runs on Saturdays. Pace will run two new express bus service routes during rush hours to the CTA’s Roosevelt Red Line station, from the Pace Blue Island park-and-ride lot and the Harvey Transportation Center, for the length of the project.
Additionally, the website redlinesouth.com will provide updates on the project and a history of the Red Line’s South branch dating back to its original 1969 opening. (Don’t hold out hope for a gallery of hobo corners on trains and slow zones.)
