Firefighters discovered the bodies of two women while fighting a fire in a Chatham apartment building, and authorities say the two were stabbed to death before the fire was set.

Cherie Adams, 42, and her daughter Curtria Duncan, 24, were found inside a bathroom in their home, dead from multiple stab wounds.

Adams' daughter Rochelle Pinex told the Sun-Times her mother had been worried about someone breaking into her home through her window at night.

“I don’t know who in their right state of mind would want to do anything to them,” said Pinex, 28. Adams was a self-employed beautician. Duncan was a radiology student at Kennedy-King College. Duncan's son, 3, was not home at the time of the fire.
