Joel Reese wrote an oral history of the Matadors, the dance team comprised of morbidly obese men who performed at Bulls games during the wilderness period between the Jordan and D-Rose eras, over at ChicagoSide that is mesmerizing in its depth and narrative.

Among the people Reese interviewed for the article were Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who was inspired to create his own squad of corpulent male dancers while watching a game in Seattle. Bulls marketing executives took Cuban's idea and created the Matadors, who enjoyed a nine-year run at the United Center before they were disbanded last year.
