The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events announced that Grammy Award-winning band fun. — yes, that fun. — will headline opening night at Taste of Chicago when the annual tribute to gluttony opens July 10. Opening for fun. is Delta Spirit. The other headline acts will be announced in April. Tickets for pavilion seating for Taste concerts at Petrillo Bandshell will go on sale in May, which means you should start staking your claim to the lawn surrounding the pavilion now.

Yawn. We apologize for being unable to contain our excitement at the announcement. What does have us excited, however, are the acts to be announced later today for a planned second stage at the south end at the festival. The Tribune’s Greg Kot gives us a teaser: Lil’ Ed and the Blues Imperials and the Congregation on July 12; Canasta and Company of Thieves on July 13; and Kelly Hogan on July 14. Don't let DCASE know we're enthused about that — they may charge us to bring a lawn chair.
