By Samantha Abernethy in Food on Mar 13, 2013 8:20PM

March 14 is a somewhat irrational holiday celebrating an irrational number. Math nerds and pie fans alike indulge in 3.14 puns, pastries and digit recitations contests.

In case you forgot, π is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. It is an irrational number, with decimal digits continuing into infinity.

School teachers nationwide celebrate Pi Day on March 14 to help students remember the mathematical constant. Fans of math and physics keep it continuing into infinity just for fun. Bonus: March 14 is Albert Einstein's birthday, and this year is his 134th.
