Emit And Accept by Scott Menzel

Scott Menzel is an artist who has refused to let his work be constrained by his physical abilities. He has spinal muscular atrophy, so much of his daily life is aided by technology. His artwork is no different - he creates his work digitally. His unwillingness to let his physical limitations restrict his creativity is an inspiration. Menzel talks about his work here and shares that working digitally has actually given him more freedom because he can make a canvas of any size. His optimism and determination coupled with his passion for his "bold visual poetry" have led him to keep creating.

Menzel's work has been chosen to be exhibited in a variety of places such as schools and a hotel. His work was even chosen out of 30,000 entries in a worldwide competition to be exhibited in Times Square as part of Art Takes Times Square. This Thursday evening at House of Blues, Emerge Media is hosting a benefit for Menzel called "Art Music Life." There will be music by Fly Phoenix, Anti-Crew, Scotty Dangerfield & Crash County, Rob Tonsick, In the AM, The Locals. Fly Phoenix is headlining and they are a Chicago-based alternative-soul band that is "all about spreading positivity" through their music.

Art Music Life is 17 and up, doors open at 6:30 and the show starts at 7:30. You can get tickets online in advance for $10 or they are $12 at the door. House of Blues is located at 329 N Dearborn.
