Chicago psych-blues-rockers Bailiff are preparing for the release of their sophomore album, the follow-up to their debut LP Red Balloon that we dug so much back in 2011. The band has all the songs written and ready to go, and they even have engineer Beau Sorenson and Chrome Attic recording studio waiting on them. But you know, the economy and all—they don’t have the money for recording, so they’re looking to fans for funds by holding a Kickstarter campaign.
Using Kickstarter to fund your album is no new thing, but Bailiff’s approach is a bit more bang-for-your-buck than we’ve seen in the past—a $10 donation gets you an advanced digital copy of the album in full, while $25 gets you an advanced, autographed, and personalized copy of the CD. (Think of more as a pre-order than a donation.) The fundraiser’s goal is $15,000, and the band has already reached about $13,000. Not bad, but the campaign ends this Friday, which gives them only three days and some change to make the other $2,000. Feel free to throw them some dough and pre-order a copy of the album at their Kickstarter page.
In other Bailiff news, the trio is out of town right now, playing a show in St. Louis but they’ll be back in time to perform April 5 at Subterranean in support of soulful local rockers, Software Giant. In the meantime, check out this mini-doc for a look into the band’s songwriting process on the new album:
Bailiff plays Friday, April 5 at Subterranean, 2011 W North Ave, 10 p.m., $8, 21+
