Brookfield Zoo Welcomes Baby Angolan Colobus Monkey

By Samantha Abernethy in Arts & Entertainment on Mar 20, 2013 8:20PM

An Angolan colobus monkey was born at Brookfield Zoo on March 9. The infant is born completely white to blend in with its mother's long white strips of hair. As the baby ages, its coat will fade to black. The mother Olivia, 5, is sharing childcare with the other females in the group, taking turns carrying the baby until nursing time with mom.

The Angolan colobus is native to equatorial Africa and spends most of its time in the canopy. Mom and baby are in the zoo’s Tropic World: Africa exhibit.
