Thursday Afternoon Diversion: Save Our Schools

By Kevin Robinson in Arts & Entertainment on Mar 28, 2013 8:00PM

Yesterday thousands of students, teachers and parents, as well as regular Chicagoans that care about public education and the children in our neighborhoods rallied on Daley Plaza and marched to CPS headquarters in opposition to the mayor's plans to close over 60 schools.

For those of us who might not have been inside of a Chicago public school before (Rahm Emanuel, we're looking at you) we're running a fantastic video that was put together by Reason to Give in 2010, highlighting the music program at Lafayette Elementary in Humboldt Park. Why are we highlighting Lafayette? Because they have a wonderful marching band, a great orchestra program, an autism magnet school, and, sadly, they're on the list of schools to be closed.

(H/T to Beachwood Reporter for highlighting this video!)
