Afternoon Box Score: White Sox Go Long On Royals

By Chuck Sudo in News on Apr 3, 2013 9:10PM

White Sox 5, Kansas City 2

Adam Dunn, Dayan Viciedo, Alexei Ramirez and Tyler Flowers each homered for the South Siders and Jake Peavy struck out six over six innings of work as the Sox improved to 2-0 at U.S. Cellular Field this afternoon. Peavy, who didn't get a lot of offensive support last season, was staked to an early lead with solo shots by Dunn in the second inning and Flowers in the third. Between those homers, KC's Alcides Escobar singled to left field, where a Viciedo error allowed Chris Gets to score> Viciedo found a measure of atonement with a two-run shot that slipped out of the glove of left fielder Alex Gordon and into the bullpen. The Bullpen held KC in check to get the game to Addison Reed, who picked up his second save.

After a sellout Opening Day, attendance at the ballpark returned to normal with an announced crowd of 14,213, although it looked like much less on television.
