First Look: Brunch By Cleetus Friedman At Fountainhead

By Anthony Todd in Food on Apr 8, 2013 2:30PM

A few weeks ago, the Chicago food community went into mourning when City Provisions, everyone's favorite local food haven and brunch spot, closed. The owner, Cleetus Friedman, has been busy since the closing. He's working on a new online TV show and applying to be the host of Check, Please! At the same time, he announced a few weeks ago that he was taking over the helm of Ravenswood bar/restaurantFountainhead, near enough to the old City Provisions that he could roll over some of his own equipment.

He also announced that he'd be bringing all of the favorites from one of our favorite brunches at City Provisions over to Fountainhead. We stopped in this past weekend to check things out. The dishes on the menu will look familiar to City Provisions fans, and there were even glasses of Friedman's collaboration wine made with Illinois Sparkling Company, Freak of Nature. No collaboration beers are on tap, but they will be coming soon. Until then, Fountainhead's impressively extensive beer and whiskey list will have to do.

Take a look at the photos to get an idea of the menu. Descriptions are in the captions. Brunch runs from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sundays. Friedman informed us later that they were so packed they ran out of food before brunch ended. While we doubt that will happen again, we'd still suggest going early.

Fountainhead is located at 1970 W. Montrose Avenue.
