Michigan Avenue’s historic shopping district is still a popular destination for teens looking to cause a ruckus as well as shoppers. An elderly woman was accosted by a group of young men Wednesday, who made off with over $100,000 in jewelry and other belongings. (The Tribune says the haul was closer to $200,000.)

The woman, who requested anonymity, told NBC Chicago one of the young men demanded she remove her jewelry “or (he) will,” while another took her purse. CBS Chicago reports “10 to 12 African American men while walking in the 700 block of North Michigan around noon in front of Saks Fifth Avenue.” The most notable piece of jewelry stolen from the woman was a diamond-encrusted, leaf-shaped pin surrounded by black onyx, valued at $50,000.

Charges haven’t been filed in the incident, which the woman said wouldn’t keep her away from Boul Mich anytime soon.

It's just things I lost. Things can be replaced. Just one piece was special to me," she said.
