Yankees Fans Pay Top Dollar For Imported Beer... From Chicago?

By Samantha Abernethy in Food on May 23, 2013 10:20PM

The beer connoisseurs at Yankee Stadium mislabeled Goose Island as an "import beer," and it makes us giggle. The Goose Island India Pale Ale was added to the import beer cart priced at $12 for a 24-oz. cup, and Beck's was also marked as "import," although it is now manufactured in the U.S.

According to DNAinfo, Yankees Stadium is changing the label to “Premium Beer,” which is the second change they've had to make. They also had to change the name of the "Craft Beer Destination," which served several brews that were neither craft nor beer.

A spokesperson for Goose Island tells us Goose Island’s IPA was the #1 selling IPA in the island of Manhattan last month, which makes us wonder why Yankees Stadium didn't know where the exotic land of Goose Island was located.

Their mistake has us wondering what other Chicago delicacies they'd like to import. We've created a menu of special delicacies for which New Yorkers may like to splurge.

- Using a nose-to-tail approach, "Vienna" beef is stuffed into a snappy, all-natural casing, then placed on a steamed poppy seed bun. The meat is topped with a "French" yellow mustard, then dragged through the garden adding chopped onion, tomato slices, a dill pickle spear and pickled sport peppers. A splash of neon green relish, meticulously colored to match your hip plastic sunglasses, and a dash of celery salt finish off this dish. Market price. — Samantha Abernethy

- Paper-thin slices of roast beef marinated in a simmering pot with herbs and spices, Italian beef is nestled inside fluffy baguette with your choice of sweet peppers or spicy handcrafted giardniera relish, a spicy mélange of sport peppers, cauliflower, celery, carrots and other farm fresh ingredients that perfectly complements the sweet flavors of the grain-fed beef. It is then dipped in its own jus before being served to you. Try this for the wonderful price of $27. — Chuck Sudo

- Freshly-popped whole grain corn is lovingly drenched with fleur-de-sel caramel and creamery butter and then tossed, creating one of the most delicious delicacies ever imported from a European confectionery. Try Garrett's Pop-corn today for only $25! — Rob Christopher
