Pittsburgh Pirates 2, Cubs 0

Pirates starter Francisco Liriano gave up two hits over seven innings, and while the Cubs got three hits off the relief pitchers in the later innings, they couldn't put anything together. Travis Wood started for the Cubs and gave up four hits and one run over six innings. Carlos Marmol struck out two in one inning of relief, while Carlos Villanueva gave up one more run and the Cubs lost 2-0.

Oakland Athletics 4, White Sox 3

Things weren't much better down on the South Side. Chris Sale took the mound for the Sox and pitched seven and a third innings, struck out six and gave up a grand slam to third baseman Josh Donaldson. The Sox notched five hits against Jarrod Parker, including three from Tyler Flowers, who had a homerun in the third, but it wasn't enough. The Sox have lost 10 of their last 11 games.
