2013_6_14_HPSDpointebeginning.jpg The Hyde Park School of Dance celebrates their 20th Anniversary beginning tonight with the first of two concerts featuring some distinguished guests. Members of the Joffrey Ballet, Joel Hall Dancers and Deeply Rooted Dance Theater are among those joining HPSD for “En Avant,” which means moving forward.

See performances from current HPSD students, faculty and alumni and members of the school’s Tyego Dance Project, as well as a few world premiere works, including one from HPSD Founding Artistic Director August Tye. Tye, who has been at the helm since the beginning, says, “As a choreographer, I am driven to find a hybrid between the powerful technique of classical ballet and the natural flow of emotion and movement that characterizes contemporary dance. Most important to me is that my dances engage everyone involved—audience and dancers alike—on both an emotional and an intellectual level.” Saturday’s matinee will also take time to thank some special individuals who have been integral to the school's longevity.

Tonight’s performance begins at 7pm, and Saturday’s matinee at 2pm at the University of Chicago’s Reva and David Logan Arts Center (915 E. 60th St.). Tickets range from $35 to $100.
