See 'The Man Of Steel' With Zod Himself, Michael Shannon

Micahel Shannon returns to his Chicago roots this weekend to co-host a charity screening of Man Of Steel to benefit A Red Orchid Theatre. Shannon was a founding member of the the theater and we still see him frequently around town remaining involved with the local theater community. In fact the first time we saw Shannon act was in the film adaptation of Bug, a work that originated at A Red Orchid with him in the starring role. And man were we creeped out.

Shannon has created a mini industry of playing, shall we say, rather intense characters. Kim Fowley in The Runaways, Agent Nelson Van Alden in Boardwalk Empire, a Delta Gamma sorority sister, and now General Zod in The Man Of Steel. One might say Shannon brings a superheroic intensity to his latest role, playing a character filled simultaneously with rage and complete conviction in his ways. So what better way to take in the blockbuster juggernaut than in the company of Zod himself?

Shannon joins co-host Billy Dec at At 2 p.m. this Saturday, June 22, at the AMC Loews 600 North Michigan for a private screening of the film, and then the party moves down the street to Dec's Rockit Bar & Grill. Tickets are $75 but that covers the movie, booze and food, plus it all benefits A Red Orchid and gives you a chance to tell Shannon in person just how frightened he makes you when he appears onscreen. You can get your tickets online or by calling 312-943-8722.
