Lakeview Releases Neighborhood App

When you're visiting a new neighborhood, you don't always know where to eat. Even if you live in a neighborhood, you don't always know about all the cool stuff around you. Lakeview and Lakeview East Chambers of Commerce teamed up with developer Michael Johnson of New Media Three to create GoLakeview, a brand new mobile app that includes features like a calendar of community events, parking information and a retail database. You can search for restaurants, bars and shops or check in on Foursquare. Restaurants are first listed by your distance from them, but you can sort them by meal, outdoor seating, and quick eats.
There's an LGBT tab that features information and links, plus, there's a daily specials section—when you click on the day, you'll see all the bar and restaurant specials in the neighborhood. Today, you can get $5 drink specials at Milt's Barbecue for the Perplexed, $ bloody marys, mimosas, or screwdrivers at Schubas, $5 mimosas at Frasca, and lots of other deals.
If you're a neighborhood resident, there's info like street cleaning updates, links to the Alderman, and links to Lakeview-centric stories from DNAInfo.com. And there are suggestions for fun neighborhood crawls, which are called Explorer Packs. Crawls include a craft beer tour, dog-friendly activities, and a walking art tour, and there will be new ones added regularly.
I live in East Lakeview, and spent some time perusing the app recently. While I spend a lot of time in the area, I found tons of restaurants and bars that I've never heard or noticed when walking down the street. The app is cute and easy to use, and I can see it becoming a go-to resource for finding things to do within walking distance of home this summer.
Apps for other neighborhoods are in the works, but in the meantime, go download GoLakeview for the times you're around Belmont and Clark and need to grab a quick bite.
