Cleveland 19-9, White Sox 10-8

How long is it until Bears' training camp? The White Sox are looking more like sellers as we head into July with the MLB trade deadline on the horizon as they dropped a doubleheader to Cleveland Friday at Sox Park. In the first game The Indians roared back from a 5-0 first inning deficit with a five-run second inning and a six-run fourth inning. Starter Hector Santiago lasted just 2 1/3 innings and Robin Ventura had to use his relievers heavily, with Brian Omogrosso and Ramon Troncoso were stretched past their normal situational pitching—Omogrosso took the loss and it was so bad outfielder pitched the ninth inning. Adam Dunn hit his 21st homer for the Sox in the first inning.

The nightcap, if you can believe it, was even worse. The White Sox held an 8-5 lead heading into the ninth inning thanks to a rare meltdown by closer Addison Reed, who allowed four runs to score, including the game-winning homer to professional pest Nick Swisher. It was Reed's third blown save of the season. Although the Sox allowed three unearned runs in the first game, the pitching let them down in the doubleheader.

Seattle 5, Cubs 4 (10 innings)

At Safeco Field, the Cubs relief corps squandered yet another quality start by Travis Wood by allowing the Mariners to tie the game in the eighth inning and win in the tenth thanks to a Mike Zunino single. Wood has had 15 quality starts this season and he's pitched much better than his 3-4 record indicates. Friday Wood lasted 6 1/3 innings and allowed only two runs.
