Bridgeport Pasty Company's Retail Location Now Open

By Chuck Sudo in Food on Jul 1, 2013 6:30PM

Bridgeport Pasty Company is one of the few of Chicago's first two waves of food trucks still operating today. With the city's food truck ordinance written to seemingly make it harder for food trucks to operate (or, as Ald. Tom Tunney would call it, "an ordinance that can be revisited") the food trucks still in operation are those who either truly believe in the power of small business or those as part of a larger restaurant operation.

Bridgeport Pasty's Jay Sebastien and Carrie Clark recognized this and last year began converting the apartment they lived in into a brick and mortar retail establishment where they could sell their hand held Cornish-style meat pies, in addition to having their eco-friendly food truck on the streets. The converted space opened to the public June 30 and carries Bridgeport Pasty's full menu, a couple daily soup selections—I sampled a corn chowder and a tomato bisque on a visit Saturday&mdashand cupcakes from Chicago Cupcake.

Currently Bridgeport Pasty is open for lunch only from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. daily. The storefront is located at 3142 S. Morgan Street and makes a fine new addition to the Bridgeport Morgan Street dining scene that includes Pleasanthouse Bakery, Bridgeport Coffee House and Zaytune Mediterranean Grill.
