It's almost time for the Air and Water Show, the time when about half of Chicago geeks out and the other half instinctively dives for cover every time a jet flies over head. Want to avoid the crowds, the heat and thirst? Here are five places to watch the Air and Water Show in style with a great view, a good drink and some munchies.

If you want to watch the air and water show from the water, consider booking a cruise on the Odyssey (recently revamped), the Spirit of Chicago or the Mystic Blue. Each boat offers morning and afternoon sailings all weekend, and the price is between $45 and $80 per person.

Want a shot at the best view in the city? Try to get one of the few remaining tickets to view the Air and Water Show from the Signature Room atop the Hancock Building. From 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., guests can enjoy a full buffet complete with assorted charcuterie, artisan cheese, olives, pickled vegetables, gourmet crackers, steak sandwiches and turkey sliders. Tickets are $130 per person and must be purchased over the phone. Call 312-280-0472 for more information and reservations.

The Cityscape Bar is a bit further back from the lakefront, but it's got a great view up the river and will likely be somewhat less crowded. They'll be offering drink specials, including The Open Air, made with Bacardi O, Apple and tonic, for $8.

If you want the most unobstructed view you can get, buy a ticket for the W Lakeshore. The 6th floor deck and the 7th floor WET deck will both be open and $25 gets you a cocktail and access to the roof. Call 312-943-9200 for tickets and more information.

The dec Rooftop Lounge at the Ritz Carlton will be offering a special menu of "flights and bites" during the weekend. Flights, which cost between $12 and $19, involve three pours in a particular category - these include light beer, dark beer, rye, tequila and wines. Learn a little while you watch the show. There are also some special bites for the weekend.
