Chicagoist Weekend Theater: The Dancing Of Ruth Page

By Chuck Sudo in Arts & Entertainment on Aug 18, 2013 7:30PM

Ruth Page shattered barriers as a choreographer in early 20th century ballet that went beyond the male-dominated world of dance. The Indianapolis-born dancer was among the first to incorporate movements from sports, popular dance and everyday life into the stoic world of ballet and produced dances based on American themes.

Page first attracted a wide audience dancing for Adolph Bolm's Chicago Allied Arts and later with Ravinia Opera, where today's video, a 10-minute 1928 silent recording of Ravel's Bolero, was produced.
