Have An Ice Cream Taco, Save A Life

2013_08_thisbarsaveslives_melissawiley.jpg The rooftop on theWIt is about as splashy as it gets. The only shortages you’ll find are on certain patrons’ attire. And if you're dining either 27 stories up or on the ground floor tavern, you’re not doing too shabby. You're not starving, not even close.

Remote as you may be from the severe acute malnutrition claiming the lives of 2.6 million children every year and afflicting 20 million worldwide, you can still be part of the solution through the hotel’s partnership with this bar saves lives, a snack bar company donating a life-saving packet of food flush with Plumpy’Nut® to a child in need for every bar sold. You can order an ice cream taco and make a small but real difference.

Chicago is the first city in the country to take these bars out of their packets and onto the streets and theWit’s Pastry Chef Toni Roberts the first to incorporate them into a dessert, combining this bar saves lives’ Madagascar vanilla, almond, and honey with strawberry-rhubarb cream cheese ice cream and dark chocolate. The result is a Neapolitan ice cream taco ($9) filled to capacity with goodwill and available through late fall.

We tried one of these fast-melting tacos a few weeks back and would normally advise you to share based on its generous portion size. But this is one occasion where a little greed is a good thing, so splurge and have one all to yourself.
