As fast as life moves, Chicago's vibrant hip-hop scene moves faster. Trying to document it all is a wonderfully futile exercise. Here now is a new weekly feature, "Hip-Hop Catch-Up," that humbly aims to keep you up on the Windy City boom-bap. Here we go:
- Sasha Go Hard released a new mixtape this past week, her second of the year after February's Round 3 . Pitchfork saidsome kind things about it. If you listened to last weekend's playlist, you heard Sasha Go Hard's "Rondo," which appears on Nutty World.
- Friend of Chicagoist ShowYouSuck recently appeared on JBTV, where he performed some songs off of his recently released Slice After Death mixtape. He also teased out, through his Twitter feed, the fact that he's working on a new album.
- Speaking of ShowYouSuck, one-time collaborator Netherfriends premiered a new song, "'Shrooms Freestyle," through Ruby Hornet. The track is the first release from Netherfriends Kind Of Buzzed Vol. 5, and it features Chicago emcee Chandler London.
- Chance The Rapper's mixtape "Acid Rap" was nominated for a BET award for Mixtape of the Year.
- Chicago emcee Saba, who's from the Austin neighborhood, recently produced a track for his rap collective Pivot Gang titled "AquaTeen." The song also features Tiffany Capri.
Keep listening!
