Keep Summer Going With 6 Free Musical Releases

2013_08_rockproper.jpg All of a sudden, it's summer time in Chicago. The weather's (finally) warm and you've got a three-day weekend coming up. Need a soundtrack? Want to save that beer and BBQ money? Today local label Rock Proper is releasing six original albums into the interweb free of charge.

Casey Meehan is perhaps best known around Chicago for founding his music discovery delivery system Chicago Mixtape, but before that he created a record label made of up solely free downloads by the name of Rock Proper. When Chicago Mixtape hit the local scene, Rock Proper essentially fell by the wayside. People kept visiting the site though.

After looking at his download numbers years later, Meehan realized the need for free tunes was still there and decided to revamp the label. Ergo today's "End of Summer Six-Pack" with music from local Rhymesayers Entertainment rep Psalm One's alternate personality Hologram Kizzie; previously unreleased tracks from Brad Swiniarski; a joint effort from spazzy Chicago punk rockers Phantom Works and Cool Devices; a laid back jam sesh from JWF; garage rock from Jason Eckerson and a "best of" compilation from Chicago recording studio Pieholden Suite Sound.

We hope Meehan keeps Rock Proper chugging this time around because, c'mon, who doesn't love free music?
