Honey Butter Fried Chicken Is 'Almost Ready' To Open

By Anthony Todd in Food on Sep 4, 2013 3:30PM

We've been waiting for this restaurant since a very, very early morning back in 2011 when we first tasted Chefs Josh Kulp and Christine Cikowski's fried chicken. Looks like it is actually, really for real going to happen.

When we first visited their space last year (at the time, covered in the remnants of the Mexican restaurant that had been the previous occupant), it was something of a rubble-filled mess. We heard stories of basement horrors, real estate searches and all of the other nitty gritty of opening a restaurant, and it wasn't all that encouraging. When we stopped by a few weeks ago for a quick visit, the space was a different-colored rubble-filled mess, though this time it had fixtures, molding and the biggest walk-in (soon to be filled with chicken) that we had ever seen.

Now, it's just about time. If you've been paying attention to Facebook and Instagram (and if you haven't, start now), you know that the much-anticipated restaurant has been doing menu testing, staff training and cutlery wrapping. They've got their permits in hand. That means it's time to start seriously thinking about how much chicken you can fit in your mouth.

Without giving away too many details, watch social media. The official word is that they are "almost ready" - we'd guess that within weeks, you'll be eating there.

Honey Butter Fried Chicken is at 3361 N. Elston Avenue.
