We love the all-over-the-place musical influences of Mekons and the more laid-back country stylings of Freakwater. Since Jon Langford, Sally Timms and their fellow Mekons like to dip their toes into country music now and then, and Freakwater’s dynamic duo of Catherine Irwin and Janet Beveridge Bean can rock out with the best of them, it makes perfect sense for the two groups to join forces for a one-off show Hideout Sept. 22 that fits with what Tim Tuten told Chicagoist last week about what makes the club a treasure.

“Freakons,” as the “supergroup” is dubbed, is a rare opportunity to see the groups bound the stage together for a show that has the making of being classic. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 6. Get your tickets now.
