We’re racing into chili season and damn near everyone has a recipe claiming to be the Holy Grail of chili. Why not put it to the test at the fifth annual Wicker Park Chili Cookoff, Nov. 3 from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m.?

This cookoff, held at Moonshine on Division Street, features up to 16 pro and amateur cooks competing for the Gilded Ladle Trophy and a bowl full of cash—voted on exclusively by the public. In addition to the Gilded Ladle Trophy and bragging rights, the first prize winner will receive $600 cash. Second place receives $300 and third prize will walk away with $150. If you feel you have the winning chili recipe and want to participate, email Greg Bauer here.

The competition will also serve as a coat drive sponsored by First Ward Ald. Proco “Joe” Moreno. Guests who donate a coat will receive $5 off admission in advance and at the door on the day of the cookoff. Admission is $10 in advance, $5 with a coat and tickets may be purchased online at Ticketweb beginning Oct. 4. Admission on the day of the cookoff is $15, $10 with a coat for donation.

Moonshine is located at 1824 W. Division St.
