October brings with it not only changes in temperature and shorter days but witches, goblins, ghouls, ghosts and monsters. With Halloween around the corner, Movieside, the group responsible for the “Terror in the Aisles” film series, has its annual 24-hour marathon of horror films, "The Massacre" lined up for fans of the genre Oct. 12 at the Patio Theater.

The fun kicks off with a series of vintage horror movie trailers at 11:30 a.m., followed by Thomas Edison’s silent film version of Frankenstein before Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney Jr. face off in Universal Studios’ Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man.

From there the lineup moves between short films like Guy Maddin’s The Eye Like A Strange Balloon Mounts Towards Infinity and a collection of George Romero horror film trailers with newer classics like A Nightmare on Elm Street 2, Hellraiser II, Dario Argento’s goblin classic Deep Red and Army of Darkness. Special guests include A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 Mark Patton, April Fool’s Day director Fred Walton and Dead and Buried director Gary Sherman.

Collectors will want to check out the vendor tables that will be set up in the Patio’s lobby for popular and rare finds. A live raffle will be set up with proceeds benefiting Vital Bridges. The best part of all the insanity is that you can come and go as you please—no need to stick it out through 24 hours of horror films.

Terror in the Aisles’ “The Massacre” begins Noon Oct. 12 and ends Noon Oct. 13 at the Patio Theater (6008 W. Irving Park Rd.). Purchase advance tickets here.
