PREVIEW: Actress at the Empty Bottle Oct. 27th

One positive aspect of electronic music's recent rise is that an increasing number of talented musicians from all over the world come to Chicago solely for our listening pleasure—and not just during the over-saturated summer music festival season either.

Case in point: acclaimed British DJ/producer Actress, who will be performing at the Empty Bottle on Oct. 27, alongside Chicago's very own Parris Mitchell and Innerspace Halflife.

It's hard to put a strict label on Actress, aka Darren Cunningham. He can pull off minimal techno beats while also cutting into more experimental sounds in minutes, and it's hard not to notice the effort that he puts into really creating an experience for his audience. It's no surprise that Pitchfork awarded his last record, R.I.P., with of the Best New Music releases of 2012.

Supporting Actress are the veteran ghetto house legend Parris Mitchell and the up-and-coming duo, Innerspace Halflife. There is no question that the Chicago house music veteran Parris Mitchell is one of the hardest working house musicians in Chicago, who recently revived the once-defunct Dance Mania label and has been producing tracks for over 20 years.

Innerspace Halflife, comprised of friends Hakim Murphy and Ike Velez, completed their first European tour earlier this year and have been generating buzz for their collaborative dance/house sound.

Red Bull Music Academy Presents: Actress, Parris Mitchell, Innerspace Halflife on Sunday, Oct. 27, at Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave., Doors at 8:00 p.m., $10, 21+.
