The Daily Meal compiled a list of the 101 best pizzas in the country which will make the short hairs of some Chicagoans stand on end because only seven local pizza joints made the list and four of those listed are stuffed or deep dish places. If there’s a consolation the list also shows the folks who put it together don’t know their South Side pizza joints, either.

Spacca Napoli’s Bufalina pizza tops the Chicago entries at number 23, followed by Lou Malnati’s Chicago classic at 37; the cheese deep dish pie from Gino’s East at 40; Pizzeria Uno’s deep dish at 51; the thin crust pizza from Falco’s Pizza & pasta in McKinley Park at 61; Giordano’s special stuffed pie at 78 and Vito & Nick’s sausage pizza at number 79.

Falco’s is the surprise entry here. I’ve eaten at most of the pizza parlors on Archer Avenue and can honestly say if that sausage pie stood out because of its greatness I would have nominated and vigorously lobbied for its inclusion on our best pizzas list a few weeks back.

That’s a good a segue as any to link to that much-discussed list.
